When
I was growing up I always seemed drawn to Great Danes. There was one at
a local restaurant, another that wandered the neighborhood, another that
belonged to a friend. I got my first Great Dane when I was 18 years old
from a friend that couldn't keep him. "Sam" was a blue merle - very
large, protective yet very gentle. He was so large that my parent's just
didn't want him in their tiny house.
We gave him to a
neighbor that had a big fenced yard and another large-breed dog. As soon as I moved out of the house into
my own place I got Sapphire. I bred my first blue/black litter in 1985
and I was hooked! Best known from this litter was WYSIWYG Blue Star's
Wulfgar, owned by Sheila and Mark Lobdell. Wulf was quite the character
and he lived up to three weeks shy of his 13th birthday. I purchased
Gulliver from Phyllis Bronson in December of 1989, bred him to Sapphire
in 1990, and the rest is history!
At the 2000 National in Kansas City, Luca
become the first blue to win the coveted Best In Futurity title. Luca is
co-owned with Judy Valenti of Troy, NY. This marks the second time a WYSIWYG
dog has made history.
In 1994 Int/Mex/BIS Am Ch WYSIWYGs Sami-Blu v Belldane,
bred and owned by Jean Bell, became the first blue dane to ever go Best In
Show at an all breed show.
Skye earned her 3rd Rally
Novice leg with a respectable score of 89 <July 7th 2005> in W. Springfield. She
now adds RN to her name and she has now qualified for the Great Dane Club
of America Versatility Award! To the best of our knowledge, she is the
FIRST natural ear blue to earn the GDCA versatility title
